Let's get a few things clear...

1) The comment didn't annoy me because a) I am anti-men, anti-wiccans, female, on a diet or a have PMT. The comment annoyed me because it was pretentious and not right.

2) I am not anti-wiccans, I am anti-wicca. Wicca was "invented" in the 1950's by Gerald Gardner who wanted to have people follow him, to make himself feel important and to make money. If you ask witches who follow the traditional path, you will mostly get this answer. As I said I am not anti-wiccan, as I have a lot of wiccan friends. I don't agree with their path BUT I support them in their ways and even run a group where 90% of the people on their are wiccan. Traditional (or Old Ways) witchcraft is not the same as wicca and what they now call 'British Traditional' is, For some reason Brit Trad is wicca but trying to make it like the old ways but unfortunately it isn't.

3) If you don't like my views, blog posts, information or perhaps my bluntness then don't read my blog. Simple as that really. The information on this site has been written with knowledge, experience and from the heart. It follows the Old Ways of doing things, not a wiccan point of view. So feel free to read on, ask questions or ask for help. I always help those genuinally interested. If you want to moan, write crap, slate my site or nit pick, then please shut the door on your way out. We don't want to cause a draught!

4) I am a simple, honest, caring person. I live with my family, in a tiny little house in the middle of a town, and as my old signature tag line used to say on all the forums I frequent "I am the town freak.....and I like it!". I love my family more than anything in the world. I tread my chosen path with love, honour and respect. I love my friends dearly and care for them as if they were family. I love all aspects of nature and wonder at how amazing it is. I am learning to stand my ground, to stand up for my self and to stand up for my beliefs. I continue to learn and grow on my path, on a daily basis, as all pagans should. All of these things, make me a true witch, why? Because it comes from within. Not because I have read fancy books from goodness knows who. Not because I have a large altar with every type of wiccan implement, tool or ritual item. Not because I walk around in a cloak and have an athame in my hand. None of that is being a witch. Being a witch comes from you. From inside you. From your heart. You are driven with passion of learning and nature. To see how nature works and to help situations in a natural way. To respect nature and our surroundings. To use natural remedies, to learn and work with the phases of the moon and the seasons. This makes you a witch. As I say in one of my informational pages. It is easy to call yourself a witch (or a wiccan) but to be a witch you must live as a witch. And that is what myself and my family do.

Happy Ostara!

Today is Ostara. A special day in the Pagan calendar as it symbolises the start of spring, fertility, new life, new plants and new (hopefully) warmer days. Ostara was originally celebrated by the giving and eating of eggs, as eggs symbolise fertility and new life. Ring any bells? ;)

Tonight we will have our family ritual and share eggs together as well as play a game or two and make some choccy cakes if we have time too! A time to reflect on the winter we have had (or in some cases still having, we had snow yesterday!) and look towards the sunnier weather and the longer days.

Some people this year will celebrate Ostara actually on the Spring Equinox date which is this Sunday (25th March), others celebrate it on the 21st March each year no matter when the Equinox date falls as this is the average date through the years and is commonly known as the 'traditional' date for Ostara. As a family we will celebrate both events! So whatever you do and wherever you are, have a very happy Ostara!

Pills and rites...

Doc has just left (only 9 hours after we called him!) and he has given Col various pills and stuff to stop him throwing up. Hopefully this will do the trick!

The girls almost made us cry as they came down with their box of 'witchy' things from their room and set up their own altar on the lounge floor and did a healing blessing and ritual for Col. Awww it was so lovely, they did so well! Am so proud of my little witchys!

Ego trips...

Why do some people think they are better than you? They think they know more, do it better and love to make you feel small?

Just because people do things differently doesn't make them better or worse, a lesson many people need to learn.

In pagan circles I feel that I can hold my own. I know a fair bit but I am continually learning, as all pagans should be. I love to learn things, take on challenges, practise new crafts etc. But why is it that some pagans have this power trip and try and 'lord it' over you. These 'holier than thou' pagans need to live in the real world and stop trying to be 'the one' because if we all pulled together we might actually get somewhere!

Imbolc blessings to you all!

May you all have a great imbolc day!

Imbolc is the sabbat that shows the Wheel of the Year slowly turning to spring. It marks the Sun’s growing strength. The days grow longer and in many places we begin to see the first signs of spring. In fact, Imbolc is a Celtic term for spring. In the Irish language, it means "in the belly" (i mbolg), referring to the pregnancy of ewes. The Druids called this sacred holiday Oimelc, meaning "ewe's milk".

Like many Celtic festivals, Imbolc celebrations centered on the lighting of fires and candles. Imbolc is a Sabbat of fertility, inspiration, healing, and purification.
Imbolc, honours Brigit. This festival was christianized as Candlemas or Lady Day and Her Feast day, La Feill Bhride, was attended by tremendous local celebration and elaborate rituals. Her festival is also called Brigit. Brigit (the Goddess and the Festival) represents the stirring of life again after the dead months of the winter, and her special blessings are called forth at this time.

Brigit (or Brede, or Bride, depending on where you come from in the world) is the Goddess of Healers, Poets, Smiths, Childbirth and Inspiration; Goddess of Fire and Hearth and a patron of warfare. She is said to be present at every birth.

As the Goddess of Inspiration, she blesses poetry, creativity, prophecy and the arts. She has even been esteemed as the patron deity of language, having inspired the alphabet. As the Goddess of Smithcraft, she blesses blacksmiths, goldsmiths, and other crafters of the household. As Goddess of Healing, she blesses physical and spiritual healing, fertility of crop and livestock and mid-wifery.

Blessings to you all!

How to blend aromatic oils

Aromatic blending for the sheer pleasure of the aroma is a combination of creativity and science. When using a blend created primarily for its fragrance, therapeutic benefit can also occur. The focus of the blend, however, is on the final aroma, not its therapeutic properties.

Safety precautions should be followed for any type of blending, including for aromatic blending. For instance, you would still want to be extremely careful when using Bergamot because of its phototoxic properties and still avoid using all hazardous oils and all oils that are contraindicated for conditions that you have.

Traditional perfumers that work for the famous fragrance houses study for years to master the art and science of perfumery blending. The perfumer’s standard repertoire consists of essential oils but also of synthesized chemicals that mimic the constituents (chemicals) of essential oils and other natural ingredients. Perfumers use synthesized chemicals and chemicals extracted from essential oils because they are often cheaper than using pure essential oils and because the chemicals are standardized and will be more consistent in aroma. If you can find a copy, The Science and Art of Perfumery by Edward Sagarin (copyright 1945) is a fascinating book that provides insight into the history and science of perfumery.

In aromatherapy blending, only natural ingredients such as essential oils, absolutes, CO2s, grain alcohol, carrier oils, herbs and water are used. Because aromatherapy blending requires and benefits from the use of unsynthesized chemicals, you shouldn’t have high expectations for perfectly duplicating your favorite commercial fragrances.

Blending Basics

Essential oils can be categorized into broad groups based on their aromas. An example categorical system is as follows:

Floral
(i.e. Lavender, Neroli, Jasmine)
Woodsy
(i.e. Pine, Cedar)
Earthy
(i.e. Oakmoss, Vetiver, Patchouli)
Herbaceous
(i.e. Marjoram, Rosemary, Basil)
Minty
(i.e. Peppermint, Spearmint)
Medicinal/Camphorous
(i.e. Eucalyptus, Cajuput, Tea Tree)
Spicy
(i.e. Nutmeg, Clove, Cinnamon)
Oriental
(i.e. Ginger, Patchouli)
Citrus
(i.e. Orange, Lemon, Lime)
Oils in the same category generally blend well together. I hesitate specifying that particular categories blend well with other specific categories because it can limit your creativity and experimentation. Additionally, there are always exceptions. But to get you started, below are some categories that generally blend well together:

Florals blend well with spicy, citrusy and woodsy oils.
Woodsy oils generally blend well with all categories.
Spicy and oriental oils blend well with florals, oriental and citrus oils. Be careful not to overpower the blend with the spicy or oriental oils.
Minty oils blend well with citrus, woodsy, herbaceous and earthy oils.
Harmonizing Your Blend

Have you ever noticed that a fragrance smells differently after several hours than when you first apply it? Some essential oils evaporate more quickly than others. As the oils in a blend evaporate, the aroma will change to reflect the aroma of the remaining oils.

Using the analogy of a musical scale, oils that evaporate the quickest, usually within 1-2 hours, are called “top notes.” Oils that evaporate with 2-4 hours are considered “middle notes.” Oils that take the longest time to evaporate are referred to as “base notes.” Some base notes can take several days to evaporate! Edward Sagarin credits Septimus Piesse with this analogy that has been used by many perfumers:

“Another contribution to the field of odor classification was made by the famous perfumer and perfume historian, Septimus Piesse. This unique figure in the history of the science created what he called an “odophone.” the odors were like sounds, he pointed out, and a scale could be created going from the first or lowest note, the heavy smell to the last or highest note, the sharp smell. In between there was an ascending ladder. Each odor note corresponded to a key on his odophone, and in the creation of a happy mixture of many different odors, which we call a “bouquet” and which every finished perfume must be, the creator seeks not only to hit the right notes, but to strike those notes which go with one another. His perfume must not be out of tune.” [Edward Sagarin, The Science and Art of Perfumery (New York, NY: McGraw-Hill, 1945), 145.]

Blending does not have hard and fast rules that must be followed to create that wonderful blend that you’ll love for a lifetime. The lack of limits and restrictions is what makes perfumery an art form. Having said that, a few tips will help get you off to a fine start:

Tips

When creating a new blend, start out small with a total number of drops of either 5, 10, 20 or 25 drops. 25 drops should be the most that you start with. By starting small, you waste less oil in your blending experiments.

Start creating your blend by only using essential oils, absolutes or CO2s. After you have designed the blend, then you can dilute it by adding carrier oils, alcohol, etc. If you hate the blend you created, you have then not wasted any carrier oils or alcohol.

Keep a notebook that lists each oil that you used with the number of drops used for each oil. When the creative juices flow, it is easy to get carried away and later forget the exact recipe for your blend; one drop too much or too little of even one oil can drastically change the aroma of your blend. When you find that perfect blend, you want to be able to reduplicate it, and it’s near impossible if you didn’t take notes! If you are especially ambitious, it’s also a wise idea to note the vendor name of the oil that you used as the aroma and quality of oils do vary between vendors (even with the same vendor, the aroma of oils can vary from batch to batch, due to crop fluctuations and resourcing).

To store your beautiful creations, perfume sample bottles and 2ml amber “shortie” bottles are very inexpensive and can often be purchased from aromatherapy vendors and glass bottle companies.

Be sure to label your blends clearly. If you don’t have enough room to specify exactly what your blend is, label it with a number that corresponds to a number in your notebook.

Start off your blending experiments by creating blends that are made up in the following ratio (you do not have to be exact – this is just a guideline to get you started): 30% of the oils are top notes, 50% are middle notes, and 20% are base notes. See the chart above to find out what oils belong to each category.

Some oils are much stronger than others, especially the absolutes and CO2s. Study oils you wish to use in a given blend and observe the oils that have the strongest aromas. Unless you want those oils to dominate the blend, you will want to use dramatically less of the stronger oils in your blend.

To learn more about the strength of oils, it is useful to try experiments where you add one drop of a selected essential oil to 5 drops carrier oil to get a 20% dilution, smell it, study the aroma, then add another 5 drops of carrier oil to get a 10% dilution, smell it and study the aroma again, then repeat as desired. This can help educate you on the characteristics and strengths of each essential oil at various dilution ratios.

After creating your blend, allow it to sit for a few days before deciding if you love or hate it. The constituents (natural chemicals) contained within the oils will get cozy with each other and the aroma can change, usually rounding out a bit.

How to make a herbal brew

'Brew' is the old folklore name for an infusion of herbs (and sometimes barks and fruits) mixed with hot water. We now call these herbal teas but for the sake of trying to keep some tradition for this purpose we will call them brews.

Tips & Helpful Advice

1) Always use china, ceramic, stoneware or glass items for your brew making. Plastic and metal can taint the flavour and also react with some herbs.

2) Always make sure your items are clean. Teapots back in Victorian days were never cleaned properly as it was said to improve the flavour. Utter rubbish, what actually happens is that you would probably just end up with a tummy bug!

3) Spring water or filtered water makes the best brews. You can collect rain water if you wish but make sure you boil it thoroughly before you drink it.

4) Make your teas just before you want to drink it. Don't let it sit for half an hour on the side otherwise you will end up with a stew not a brew!

5) If you are making a refreshing cold tea, make sure you cover your tea in the fridge as the tea aroma can taint other items in your fridge.

Never drink more than 3 'brews' in one day because you can have too much herbal remedies and you really don't want a tummy ache!

How To Make Your Brew

Add your herbs (as per your recipe) to your teapot (or bowl if you do not have a teapot, remember make sure it is clean and make sure it is either china, ceramic, stoneware or glass) and pour a mug full of slightly cooled boiled water over the herbs. Slightly cooled means just leave the kettle for a minute after it has boiled before pouring over your herbs.

Allow your brew to steep and infuse for 5 minutes.

When your brew has infused pour, carefully, the herbal brew, into a clean mug or cup using a strainer.

Drink as soon as you can.

Chakras

Chakras are the seven centred points of energy through the body. The word Chakra comes from the Sanskrit word for Wheel. A chakra has been described as a rotating wheel or evolving flower. Each chakra is associated with a particular colour. It is said that if all seven chakras are in balance then your body and mind is in perfect harmony. Wearing items of chakra colours or carrying something of that particular colour can help to re-align your chakras, as well as laying down and having colour representational gemstones placed on your chakra points whilst relaxing.

Chakras & Their Meanings

Chakra Seven: Crown Chakra
Colour: Violet
Thought, Universal identity, oriented to self-knowledge
The Crown chakra is about wisdom and being one with the world. When this chakra is open, you are unprejudiced and quite aware of the world and yourself.
If it is under-active, you're not very aware of spirituality. You're probably quite rigid in your thinking.
If this chakra is over-active, you are probably intellectualizing things too much. You may be addicted to spirituality and are probably ignoring your bodily needs.

Chakra Six: Third Eye Chakra
Colour: Indigo
Light, Archetypal identity, oriented to self-reflection
The Third Eye chakra is about insight and visualization. When it is open, you have a good intuition. You may tend to fantasize.
If it is under-active, you're not very good at thinking for yourself, and you may tend to rely on authorities. You may be rigid in your thinking, relying on beliefs too much. You might even get confused easily.
If this chakra is over-active, you may live in a world of fantasy too much. In excessive cases hallucinations are possible.

Chakra Five: Throat Chakra
Colour: Sky Blue
Sound, Creative identity, oriented to self-expression
The Throat chakra is about self-expression and talking. When it is open, you have no problems expressing yourself, and you might be doing so as an artist.
When this chakra is under-active, you tend not to speak much, and you probably are introverted and shy. Not speaking the truth may block this chakra.
If this chakra is over-active, you tend to speak too much, usually to domineer and keep people at a distance. You're a bad listener if this is the case.

Chakra Four: Heart Chakra
Colour: Green
Air, Social identity, oriented to self-acceptance
The Heart chakra is about love, kindness and affection. When it is open, you are compassionate and friendly, and you work at harmonious relationships.
When your Heart chakra is under-active, you are cold and distant.
If this chakra is over-active, you are suffocating people with your love and your love probably has quite selfish reasons.

Chakra Three: Navel, Spleen or Solar Plexus Chakra
Colour: Yellow
Fire, Ego identity, oriented to self-definition
The Navel chakra (also known as the Spleen or Solar Plexus) is about asserting yourself in a group. When it is open, you feel in control and you have sufficient self esteem.
When the Navel chakra is under-active, you tend to be passive and indecisive. You're probably timid and don't get what you want.
If this chakra is over-active, you are domineering and probably even aggressive.

Chakra Two: Sacral Plexus Chakra
Colour: Orange
Water, Emotional identity, oriented to self-gratification
The Sacral chakra is about feeling and sexuality. When it is open, your feelings flow freely, and are expressed without you being over-emotional. You are open to intimacy and you can be passionate and lively. You have no problems dealing with your sexuality.
If you tend to be stiff and unemotional or have a "poker face," the Sacral chakra is under-active. You're not very open to people.
If this chakra is over-active, you tend to be emotional all the time. You'll feel emotionally attached to people and you can be very sexual.

Chakra One: Root Chakra
Colour: Red
Earth, Physical identity, oriented to self-preservation
The Root chakra is about being physically there and feeling at home in situations. If it is open, you feel grounded, stable and secure. You don't unnecessarily distrust people. You feel present in the here and now and connected to your physical body. You feel you have sufficient territory.
If you tend to be fearful or nervous, your Root chakra is probably under-active. You'd easily feel unwelcome.
If this chakra is over-active, you may be very materialistic and greedy. You're probably obsessed with being secure and resist change.

Auras

An aura is the most visible part of the subtle energy processes going on within all physical objects. All matter has an aura of some kind - even a humble rock - but it is pretty dull when compared with the complex interplay of rainbow colours that make up a living human aura. Auras emanate from all physical objects, life forces and colours, as well as from many other energy sources. Being able to see Auras is called Auric Sight.

How Auric Sight Works

Auric sight - as with all forms of clairvoyant sight - depends upon the eyes and the normal optical sight process to work. Physical and non-physical sight are very closely related. They are both forms of perception that allow our brains to perceive energy, of one type or another, as a sight picture.

Here is why...

Normal Sight

Eyes receive light - light being a type of energy. Eyes focus light energy onto light sensitive nerve tissue at the back of the eye, connected to the optic nerve. Basically, this light sensitive tissue changes focussed light energy into a stream of complex electrical signals. These signals are passed, via the optic nerve, to the sight centre of the brain. The brain then interprets these signals into a rich visual
picture - what we call normal sight.

Auric Sight

The brow centre receives a more subtle type of energy than light. This type of energy can only be received by the brow centre (often called the third eye or brow chakra) when it is active and tuned in to receive that type of energy. The brow centre is situated directly between the eyes and is intimately connected with normal optical sight.

Energy received by the brow centre is passed along to the sight centre of the brain - the same as with normal sight. The brain interprets anything it receives in it's sight centre as a visual picture. It interprets auric energy as a sight picture - as coloured bands of light surrounding the subject.

* The eyes are the organs for normal optical sight (a physical organ).

* The brow centre is the organ for non-physical sight (a non-physical organ).

Both these organs, above, are situated in the same general area, i.e., the brow centre is situated in the brow, directly between the eyes. The common location and similar function of both organs (sight) suggests there is a close relationship between them, i.e., the eyes, the brow centre and the sight centre of the brain are linked. My research confirms this: that all forms of non-physical sight are closely linked with the process of normal optical sight.

Although there is a relationship between optical sight and the brow centre - an aura is not any type of light. Some people believe auras are still light, but light at a much higher frequency than normal light - that is only visible to a clairvoyant. If this were true, though, it would be possible to detect and measure this light with the sophisticated electronic instruments available today. There are scientific instruments, electronic cameras etc, that can be tuned to detect any part of the light spectrum - no matter how refined. For example: infra red, ultra violet, x rays, gamma rays, etc, all these can be detected - but auras cannot. Therefore, it is logical to suppose that auras are not composed of any type of light.

Light, however, is necessary in order to see the main aura of anything. Living auras react in the presence of light - expanding and brightening. This reaction is most noticeable when a living aura is exposed to sunlight. You could say that auras are photo-sensitive.

Another interesting observation, that adds weight to this argument, that auras are not light - but that light is necessary, in order for auric sight to work: the main aura cannot be seen in complete darkness. If auras were indeed light, why is it necessary for there to be light, in order to see them? This shows that light and normal optical sight are an important part of auric sight.

In total darkness, it is possible to see some slight activity around the energy body, close to the skin. This is almost invisible, but looks like tiny, very faint strands and sparks of bluish light. This is very faint and most noticeable around your own fingertips, when they are brought together in front of you. This is not your aura this is static electricity and your energy.

To observe any part of the energy body, in darkness, memory based visualisation is used to focus the brow centre into a subject. You have to know exactly where the subject is (in total darkness) and be able to accurately gauge their distance, shape and position, and see them clearly in your mind's eye.

Aura Cameras

But there are aura cameras - you might say - that can take pictures of the human aura? You might even have a picture of your own aura, taken at a psychic fair. How can this be?

An aura camera does NOT take an actual picture of an aura. It cannot actually see an aura. It merely creates the illusion of an aura on film.

How An Aura Camera Works

Sensors are placed on the skin - or fitted into a chair so they contact the subject's skin. These sensors measure the electrical resistance in the skin (galvanic skin response). Electrical resistance in the skin varies, according to salt and moisture level. These levels are affected by many things: diet, fluids, health, temperature, sweating, emotion, mood, activity, etc.

These readings are fed directly into a small electronic processor, attached to the camera (usually a small black box) and interpreted by it. This processor then generates a pattern of electrical signals, from these readings, according to how it is programmed.

This pattern of signals is then fed into a specially modified camera. Inside the camera, an optical colouring device creates a variable pattern of coloured lights, and beams this directly onto the film, as the picture is taken. This gives the illusion of a colourful aura surrounding the subject - according to the pattern generated by the initial readings.

Because of the way these cameras are set up, you will rarely get two pictures exactly the same. This is because of the large number of coloured patterns possible, that can be generated by slightly different sensor readings . It would be rare to get two identical sets of sensor readings from one person and, therefore, have two identical aura photographs taken in the same day.

An aura photograph is the camera designer's idea of what your aura should look like - according to their research. This research is based upon linking clairvoyant observations with the galvanic skin response on test subjects. The designers have attempted to give a specific colour value to different patterns of galvanic skin responses.

An aura photograph, therefore, is an electronically created illusion - not an actual photograph of an aura.

The Human Aura

The human aura is an energy field that surrounds the human body, and reflects the subtle life energies at work within and around it. This is something like the magnetic field that surrounds a simple magnet. Like a magnetic field, the aura is generated within physical matter - but is also affected by it's surroundings. The energies flowing through the aura make us what we are, and are in turn affected by our surrounding life conditions and life style. The aura reflects the activity of our organs, health, mental activity and emotional state. It also shows disease - often long before the onset of physical symptoms.

The strength and properties of an aura are determined by the amount of, and the quality of, the energies flowing through it.

The Main Aura

The main human aura is banded around the body - strata like. Imagine a person with thick, coloured hoops of light dropped over them, and you get the general idea. The main colours of the aura emanate from the primary energy centres (major chakras - or psychic centres). The individual bands of colour are difficult to see, unless you have very well-developed auric sight, and are observing under optimum
conditions.

The Etheric Aura

Close to the skin is the etheric aura. This is often called "The vitality sheath". It is seen (with auric sight) as a pale, narrow band, next to the skin, outlining the body. This is usually no more than half an inch wide - depending upon the vitality of the subject. It looks like a dense layer of pale smoke, clinging to the skin. This is the visible part of the energy body, in it's contracted state.

During sleep, the etheric aura expands and opens (becoming larger and finer) in order to absorb and store vitality (cosmic energy?) within it. After sleep, the energy body contracts and forms a dense sheath surrounding the body, close to the skin. This holds within it the stored energies we all need for living. In a way, the energy body is like a living storage battery. During sleep, it automatically sets itself on recharge, replacing the energies that have been used up.

Disease

This shows up in the aura in many different ways, sometimes weeks or months before any physical symptoms appear. An ear infection, for example, will show up in an aura as a gradually thickening shadow over the ear and side of the head. This can be seen several days before any physical symptoms appear. The shadow will begin as a light-grey smudge, gradually thickening and darkening. It will eventually change to a murky-green patch, about the size of your hand. As the infection worsens it will become shot through with red and orange streaks, flecks and sparks.

A shadow in the aura is the first sign of any approaching health problem. Murky-green, with red and orange streaks, flecks and sparks, is common to infection.

Death

When a person is dying, their aura undergoes dramatic changes. The first noticeable sign is when the aura fades and begins to grow weaker and paler. Next (with long term illnesses) a week or so before physical death, the aura begins to expand and change. It changes into a beautiful (very pale) milky-blue, shot through with faint , tiny, silver and white sparks. These sparks flash and twinkle throughout the aura. Each spark is only visible for a fraction of a second at a time.

*Note: The aura of a dying person is a very pale milky-blue. It is VERY pale and faint and VERY difficult to see. It is quite common to see a pale-blue aura surrounding a healthy person, and this does NOT mean they are about to die. The aura of a dying person is quite different from a normal, healthy, pale-blue. It is all one colour, much larger than normal, very milky and very faint .

Closer to the time of death, the aura begins to pulsate, swelling and shrinking erratically. At times it will fill the entire room, becoming more of an atmosphere than an aura. At other times it will be so shrunken as to be almost invisible to auric sight. It grows paler and finer by the day, and the tiny silver and white sparks become finer and increase in frequency.

The above is 'not' to be mistaken for the normal pale-blue and sparks that can be seen in a healthy human aura. The above observation is not visible to any normal level of auric sight, but requires some degree of clairvoyance, ie, the ability to see mind's eye visions.

At some time (variable) before physical death, the aura will become almost invisible to auric sight. Only a faint , very pale glow will still be seen, close to the skin. This is residual etheric matter, clinging to the physical body. There is, however, still intense activity going on within the energy body, but this is now far beyond the reach of normal auric
sight.

The aura is now reflecting itself into a much higher level of reality - another dimension. Clairvoyant and astral sight are necessary, in order to see any more energy activity, during the final stages of the death process.

At the actual moment of death, if you are watching closely, you will see a very faint , pale mist, surge up out of the body, and quickly vanish. This is the spirit leaving the physical body. That faint mist is residual etheric matter, clinging to the spirit body, as it departs.

The actual timing for these changes in the aura to occur, depend greatly upon the type of illness, the duration of it, and the strength of the dying person. These govern the speed of the actual death process. With some conditions, this whole process can happen very quickly, often a matter of hours. With other conditions, this may happen over several days, weeks or even months.

Hue Classification

The basic hue of an aura is it's dominant colour. This is the most visible colour of the multiple energies generated by all the chakras (mixed together) creating a general, overall colour. There are, of course, many different colours in any person's aura, but the basic hue is usually seen first.
Many people suggest that people can be classified, as being a particular type of person, by the basic hue of their aura.

Colours themselves have auras, so for example if you are wearing a brightly coloured jumper this would affect your aura colour. Alcohol can affect your aura colour as can being excited or feeling down.

How to write a spell

Spell craft is very personal as it harnesses and releases your inner personal power and energy.

You will see on in books literally thousands and thousands of spells for one thing or another but the best spells are always the ones you write yourself (or at least adapt in some way!).

Before you sit down and scribble down a quick chant, stop and think. Do I REALLY need a spell to make this happen? Is there any other way this could happen WITHOUT a spell?

Also you need to think about what you want to get from the spell. Remember the old saying "be careful what you wish for". This is very true for spells. Maybe you have written a spell to banish debt or to bring money your way. Have you thought about how that money may come to you? Someone may die and leave you an inheritance. So you see you have to really think about what you want, how you could get it and if you really need what you are asking for at all.

A good way to think all these things through when writing a spell is to following these formulae:

Type of spell - What do you want the spell to achieve? Healing? Blessing? Protection etc.

Purpose - You have have already thought about what type of spell it is, now it is time to lay out the actual purpose. E.g. the type of spell is a healing spell, but the purpose is to heal your leg.

Date & Time - Is there a special day or time this spell should be performed? For example - Waning Moon: To banish or get rid of something. Waxing Moon: To draw something to you. New Moon: For new changes or a new way of life or thinking. Full Moon - For maximum power for protection.

Tools Needed - What tools do you need on your Altar for your spell.

Other Supplies - Do you need extra candles? Matches? Incense? Oil? Ribbon? Cord? Pen? Paper? Etc.

Spirits To Work With – Do you feel you want to ask a certain spirit to help you?

Chant or Words - What will you say when you cast your spell?

Step By Step Instructions - How will you actually perform your ritual, what will you do?

Results - Always write down your results after you have performed your spell so you know exactly what you did, how it felt and if it worked.

Thank You's - Don't forget to say thank you to all those who helped you with your spell!

Wheel of the year

The Wheel of the Year is celebrated as the natural cycle of the seasons, commemorated by eight special days, spaced at approximately even intervals through the year.

A Sabbat (also known as a Festival) is one of the eight seasonal celebrations which make up the Wheel of the Year. These include the solstices (also known as Greater Sabbats) and equinoxes (also known as Lesser Sabbats or Fire Festivals).

Sabbats are a time for celebration and reflection and each Sabbat has it's own theme, meaning and role within the Witches Wheel of the Year and within their lives.

Sabbats usually involve a ritual and/or spell, thinking about and honouring that particular time of the year and a feast.

Esbats & Moons

An Esbat is a ceremony celebrating and honouring the Full Moon. It is a time where Witches meet, either at Coven meetings or on their own to perform a Full Moon ritual. Having said that, some witches also honour New Moons too. Really, an Esbat is ANY ritual you perform that is NOT a Sabbat, but mostly these will be performed on the night (or within 3 nights) of the Full Moon. Some witches also perform a New Moon esbat as well. Each Full Moon has a meaning behind it and here are the descriptions and meanings of the moons.

13 Full Moons

January - Wolf Moon or Ice Moon
The time to conserve energy by working on personal problems that involve no one else. It is also a time for protection rites and reversing spells. During this month the energy flow is sluggish and below the surface.

February – Moon Of Ice or Storm Moon or Snow Moon
The time for loving the self, accepting responsibility for past errors, forgiving yourself and making future plans. At this time the energy flow is working toward the surface; good for purification, growth, and healing.

March - Chaste Moon or Moon Of Winds or Death Moon
The time for new beginnings, breaking illusions, and seeing the truth in your life however much it may hurt. The energy flow breaks into the open, a good time for growing, prospering, and exploring. Light and Dark are in balance now.

April - Seed Moon or Awakening Moon or Growing Moon
The time for working on your temper, emotional flare-ups, and selfishness. The energy is flowing into creating and producing; a good time for change, self-confidence issues, taking advantage of opportunities, and realizing self-reliance.

May - Hare Moon or Bright Moon or Grass Moon
The time for strengthening the connections with supernatural protectors and beings around you. The energy is in full flow making this a good time for intuition, propagating, and connecting with faeries and nature spirits.

June - Moon Of Horses or Planting Moon
The time for decision making, taking responsibility for present happenings, working on personal inconsistencies, and for strengthening and rewarding yourself for your positive traits. The energy is in full, but restive, flow, the Earth tides are turning making this a good time for protection, strengthening, and prevention spells.

July - Hay Moon or Rose Moon
The time for dream-work, divination, and meditation on spiritual goals and plans. The energy is slower and more relaxed, proper for success and prosperity spells. This month is the time to start preparing for the colder and darker months ahead.

August - Corn Moon or Dispute Moon or Lightening Moon
The time for harvesting, gathering, and appreciating. The energy flow is slowing more and now is the time of vitality, health, and friendships.

September - Harvest Moon – Barley Moon
The time for organizing and straightening up physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual clutter. The energy flow is resting and Light and Dark are in balance.

October - Blood Moon or Hunters Moon
The time for inner cleansing. Meditate on the laws of Karma and thoughts of reincarnation. This is the time of letting go, justice, balance, and inner harmony.

November - Snow Moon or Dark Moon
The month of transformation. It is time to prepare for the coming winter and a time to strengthen communication with the god or goddess closest to you. The energy flow is taking root and preparing to flow once more.

December - Oak or Cold Moon
The time of Spiritual Paths. The Earth tides are turning and it is time to reach out to friends and family, the lonely, and the needy. This is the month of death and renewal. Spells should be aimed at endurance and provision.

Blue Moon
A Blue Moon occurs when within a month, there is a second full moon. A blue moon is said to be a wish moon and very favourable for wish magic. It is also called a Goal Moon and is a good time to set your goals for the future.
